A little over an hour ago I read the news that Steven Curtis Chapman's 5 yr. daughter was killed in a tragic accident. The following shows what was posted on the website:
MARIA SUE CHAPMAN, DAUGHTER OF STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN, DIES IN ACCIDENT AT FAMILY HOME
NASHVILLE, TN...5/21/08... At approximately 5pm on the afternoon of Thursday May 21st, Maria Sue Chapman, 5 years old and the youngest daughter to Steven and Mary Beth Chapman was struck in the driveway of the Chapman home in Franklin, TN. Maria was rushed to Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital in Nashville, transported by LifeFlight, but died of her injuries there. Maria is one of the close knit family’s six children and one of their three adopted daughters.
More than five years ago, Chapman and his wife MaryBeth founded The Shaohannah’s Hope Ministry after bringing their first adopted daughter, Shaohannah, home from China. The ministry’s goal is to help families reduce the financial barrier of adoption, and has provided grants to over 1700 families wishing to adopt orphans from around the world. Chapman is a five-time GRAMMY ® winner and 54-time Dove Award winning artist who has sold over 10 million albums and garnered 44 No. 1 singles.
It is always a tragedy when a child dies. I have been a fan since his "For the Sake of the Call" Album and I feel a great sadness within my heart that this family would lose a precious child at so young an age.... This really hit home for me. You see I am an only child. But, I shouldn't have been. Unfortunately 2 yrs before I was born my parents had a little baby boy. He too was killed in the same type of accident. I spent years before I accepted Christ, wondering about what things would have been like if my brother had not been taken away so young. And would I ever have opportunity to meet him. I believe that yes there will be a joyous meeting one day.
I will not say that I can totally understand the pain their family must be dealing with right now. My situation was different. I have always been amazed at how my mother has been able to deal with having lived through the passing of a child. I know that it will the Chapman Family time and prayer and faith to heal these wounds. Thankfully they have The Lord to lean on.
I pray that the God will lift up the Chapman family in this difficult time. Give them strength, peace, mercy and grace. A couple of verses come to mind, not that just quoting scripture is going to make everything better. But We, as Christians can lean on the word of God...
Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His godly ones.
Psalm 34:17-19 The righteous cry and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, And saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous; But the Lord delivers him out of them all.
